When a charred corpse is found in the back of beyond, lonely Detective Alba gets no help from the locals, so she teams up with ‘The Wizard’, a strange boy who can see the traumatic secrets from people’s past. As more bodies pile up the town’s dark secrets point to the church itself, and the question of who is taking revenge for what looms large . . . is it the local priest, the Virgin Mary or the Devil in disguise? A cleverly scripted, atmospherically shot combination of twisted ghost story and paranormal murder mystery.
“The Abertoir festival is dedicated to showing the best genre films from around the world, and La Segunda Muerte is one of those atmospheric films that we felt would work well as an interesting crossover between our audiences and those at WOW. Religion, guilt and the supernatural combine to produce this unique and unsettling detective story that thrives on its beautiful cinematography, bringing out the real sense of isolation in a rural Argentinian village and the paranoia that this small town is hiding some dark secrets…” Gareth Bailey, Abertoir Festival Director
